Open House and Dedication Ceremony

On Sunday, September 30, 2007 SERESC hosted an Open House in celebration of the completion of its new addition. During this event, there was a dedication ceremony to honor the people whose vision made the SERESC facility possible. At their May 17, 2007 Executive Committee meeting, SERESC's Executive Committee voted to dedicate the SERESC Professional Development Center to Dr. Antonio G. Paradis, Executive Director. The dedication plaque reads: "The Antonio G. Paradis Professional Development Center is dedicated to Dr. Paradis for his vision in creating an environment that fosters innovation and inspires individuals to achieve their greatest potential."

SERESC's new Assembly Room was dedicated to Mr. Claude Leavitt, one of SERESC's founders. As an innovator with extraordinary mentoring skills, eighteen of the administrators he mentored during his tenure went on to become superintendents, several of whom were later named Superintendents of the Year. Also, having been a superintendent in several of SERESC's districts himself over the years, many of the administrators he mentored are past and present SERESC-district superintendents. The remaining conference rooms and office spaces were dedicated to the educational leaders within the SERESC districts who participated in the development of the original Professional Development Center and its new addition.

Teaching American History Project

On the heels of the completion of SERESC's highly successful (3-year) Teaching American History (TAH) Project, funded by the US Department of Education, we are developing a second TAH grant proposal! The original project, entitled "America: A Story of Beginnings and a Story of Change--A New Hampshire Teaching American History Collaborative Project" was completed in 2007. Partners in the project included Merrimack School District (fiscal agent), Plymouth State University, seventeen rural school districts, the New Hampshire Historical Society, selected museums, and the National Park Service. The project was designed to provide an approach to academic improvement in content and teaching strategies and materials for American History teachers that will result in higher academic achievement in students.

Details on SERESC's 2008 proposal will be available soon!

New Consultants and Staff

SERESC recently welcomed several new consultants to its CEIL and NHREADS projects, a new Teacher of the Students with Visual Impairments/Multiple Handicaps, and several additional catering/banquet staff members to meet the growing needs of SERESC's Conference Center.
