Visual impairments can take many forms for students. Students with visual impairments may be blind, have low vision, have difficulty using their vision effectively, and other difficulties. VIsual impairments can impact activities of daily living, academic engagement, and many other areas.
SERESC supports school districts in meeting the unique learning needs of students who have a vision impairment, including students with additional disabilities. Services include assessment, instruction, and consultation. Our staff consists of Certified Teachers of the Blind/Vision Impaired (TBVI), including TBVI's with expertise in educational programming for students who are vision impaired and medically fragile or have significant multiple disabilities, an orientation and mobility instructor, and a trainer specializing in assistive technology for students with low vision. Each of our staff has the appropriate background education and experience needed and maintains appropriate certification.
Since vision is our primary learning channel in school a large percentage of instruction is accessed through vision. In order for students with a vision impairment to fully access the curriculum they typically need accommodations and compensatory skills. SERESC's Vision Program has the staff to work with educational teams to insure that students with vision loss have full access to the general education curriculum.

The SERESC Vision team works with school districts in the southeastern region of NH and does not accept private contracts from individuals. We consider contracts with school districts outside the region on a case-by-case basis. We provide services to students who are blind, have low vision, have difficulty using their vision efficiently, or have a brain-based visual condition (such as CVI) and have a diagnosed eye condition that adversely impacts learning. In addition to a vision impairment, students who have additional disabilities are eligible to receive vision services.
